Important Message From the Superintendent

May 16, 2013

Dear Parents and Guardians:

At approximately 3:45 PM,  Wednesday, May 15, 2013, the New London Police Department received a report of a child being followed by a man (who was first on foot, and then in a vehicle) in New London after getting off a school bus.  The child ran home and the man turned and drove off.

The child was unharmed, although upset.  The police are increasing surveillance today, and our bus drivers are alerted as well.

This situation serves as a reminder to review with your children the importance of “Stranger Danger” rules:

1.      Don’t talk to strangers

2.      Don’t walk with strangers

3.      Don’t accept gifts from strangers

4.      Don’t talk to strangers when they ask for directions, ask you to pet their puppy, or tell

you a parent is injured or in an accident

5.      If ever approached by a stranger, tell a parent or  an adult who you trust

6.      Don’t get into a car with strangers

Working together as a community, we can promote safety for all of our children, families, and community members.

Respectfully,

Jerry Frew

Superintendent of Schools

Blizzard Bags in the Kearsarge Regional School District serve as an opportunity for students to extend their learning both in times of school closings and otherwise. KRSD is a geographically large rural district with challenging weather for transporting students to and from school. Blizzard Bags allow student learning to continue despite harsh weather, and provide an opportunity for cultivating a strong school to home connection. Finally as 21st Century learners, both students and faculty, we are setting the stage for life-long learning when using/modeling technology as an education tool through Blizzard Bags.

Please take a few moments to give us your feedback on our Blizzard Bag program. Your input is invaluable as we look to reflect on and improve our Blizzard Bag practices. Thank you.

On Monday April 29th, the Kearsarge Regional School District will officially become a recycling district. Our vision is to make recycling part of our learning culture.A recycling team has been developed consisting of representatives from each of our schools. The team has been working hard to create and send a clear and consistent message to the students, faculty, and staff.Educational programs are being introduced to the students teaching them about the importance of sustainability. This really needs to be a team effort by all of us here in the District.

The process of recycling has become much easier by utilizing a new system of collection that is referred to as "single stream" or "zero sort" recycling. This new collection process allows us to collect cardboard/paper, plastic, glass, and metal into one receptacle. The days of having to sort glass by color and maintain separate collection bins for paper, glass, plastic, and metal are now in the past. The collected items are then trucked to a material recycling facility where they are mechanically separated and packaged for re-sale to market.Basically, our waste becomes a resource! There is no additional cost to recycle. There is, however, an opportunity for savings. This is an important milestone here in the Kearsarge District as we learn and discover opportunities to make our world a better. With sustainability we have the capacity to endure.
