KRHS Community Service Graduation Guidelines

COMMUNITY SERVICE is volunteerism that occurs in the community -

Any action taken to meet the needs of others and/or better the community as a whole.



KRHS requires 20 hours community service in order to graduate.Hours may be accrued at any time between the summer prior to freshman year-graduation (this includes holidays and vacations).It is suggested that seniors get their hours in by March of the graduation year.

Acceptable community service guidelines:

  1. Such fields as health care, child care, literacy training, education (including tutorial services), welfare, social services, transportation, housing and neighborhood improvement, public safety, crime prevention and control, recreation, rural development, and community improvement;
  2. Support services to students and others with disabilities
  3. Activities in which a student serves as a mentor for such purposes as tutoring, supporting educational and recreational activities.
  4. Other activities might include, but are not limited to:
    1. Cleaning a park
    2. Collecting much needed items including clothes, food, bottle tabs.
    3. Getting involved with Habitat for Humanity/Food Pantries/SPCA
    4. Reading or other activities with people in nursing homes, hospitals,and/or schools
    5. Helping out your local fire or police department
    6. Helping with a local youth sports team
    7. Warner Fall Foliage/Hospital Days or other community fairs.
    8. Church or youth group activities.
    9. Check out www.volunteernh.org for other ideas

Based on the definition of community service and the examples above, the following DO NOT qualify for Kearsarge Regional High School Community Service hours:

  1. Any paid activity
  2. Any family related activity
  3. Any fund raising that benefits student run organizations or sports teams; i.e. school dances, bake sales, car washes, etc. (however, community service performed through a group such as NHS or Student to Student is acceptable)
  4. Any activity/business that generates a profit.

Students should have their community service hours pre-approved by their parent/guardian. Forms should then be turned in to your ADVISOR.Paperwork will be ultimately stored with Mrs. Chase in Guidance.If you have any questions about whether an activity will be accepted for graduation requirement, please contact Amanda Chase 927-2317.
